The beautiful Greek island of Santorini is one that has been drawing visitors for centuries, and while it does draw big crowds from the cruise ship market, there are also some amazingly quiet and peaceful places on the island. One of the most distinctive features of the island is that it has some impressive volcanic landscapes, and the island as it can be seen today is under four thousand years old, and is believed to have been created by a volcanic eruption around 1630BC. With plenty to see and do, Santorini has a lot to offer the visitor.
Enjoy A Sunset @ Town Of Oia
One of the most famous destinations on the island of Santorini is Oia, which is well known for the remarkable sunsets, which draws visitors from across the island and beyond.
See The View @ The Pyrgos Monastery
The highest point on the island is reached by a two mile hike from the town of Pyrgos over some rocky terrain, but for those who have the dedication to hike to the top, there are some spectacular views to enjoy over all sides of the island.
Explore @ Ruins Of Akrotiri
This historic site was discovered in the 1960s and is the site of a Minoan city which was devastated by a volcanic eruption, and buried in volcanic ash. There is a museum on the site which shows off some of the remarkable pottery and other artefacts recovered from the site.
Relax On @ Red Beach
The Red Beach is another of the remarkable sites on Santorini, and owes its distinctive colour to the iron rich rocks that rise above the beach to form a distinctive cliff face.
